Recent Updates

Jan 2022 - More prop testing. This time the scimitar-shaped Meglin props. This time particularly testing

the static thrust forces, which is of particular interest to anyone keen on improving short takeoff.

                   Detailed results are at https://www.stolspeed.com/nid/46

Jun 2021 - An Avid Mk4 owner accidentally installed the 15 VGs at each wingtip at spacing 30mm instead of 60mm,

and the remainder at 60mm rather than the recommended 90mm.

The results are amazing! 12.5% reduction in touchdown speed from 40mph to 35mph.

                   Details at https://www.stolspeed.com/avid-flyer

Nov 2020 - Read this account of the ASTOUNDING ! results of applying Stolspeed VGs to a Lancair Legacy.

20kts reduction in stall speed and much much better aileron response at slow speeds.

                     https://www.stolspeed.com/lancair-legacy

Oct 2020 - Comprehensive comparison testing of the eProp. Pretty much the same performance as most other props....

                    https://www.stolspeed.com/nid/46\

Sep 2020 - Someone just alerted me to this YouTube of Mark Patey testing Stolspeed VGs.

That's the first I heard about it, so it is totally unsolicited!

                    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXS0nF1ILns&ab_channel=MarkPatey

Aug 2020 - Some excellent results on a Zenith 750 Cruzer.

                   Go to

Dec 2015  - Back home again.

Sept 2015 - JG is away on another flying/roadtrip in the USA.
This time flying the California Aquaduct and the Mississippi River.

                     Follow the story at http://jgflyingroadtrip2015.blogspot.com/

.........................................................................................................................

Aug 2015  - Read a thorough flight testing and analysis of Stolspeed VGs on an RV6.

May 2015   - I really enjoy this new wind/weather map.

https://www.windy.com/?950h,50.233,-90.791,3

Search the different altitudes for head/tail winds.
                     Try FL300 (9000m) for fun.....
                        https://www.windy.com/?300h,47.695,-102.393,3

Call up different overlays for cloud, rain, snow, etc.
Scroll and zoom in for local details.
Type a location in the search box for a detailed local 5 day forecast
Like this for my home in Australia:

https://www.windy.com/spot/location/-26.981/152.565?750h,-26.982,153.582,
I particularly like the cloud graphic.

Jan 1 2015 - I wasn't able to do my traditional New Years morning flight this year.
I had dreamed of doing that flight in the USA, looking over the Trinity Site, in New Mexico,
where the first atomic bomb was exploded.
But I couldn't get my visa extended, so flew that site in October instead.
Can't fly right over the site because it's in the restricted White Sands Missile Test Area,
But this photo is looking in toward the site.

It's not really that dark down there, it's just the camera exposing to the sun and bright sky....

..............................................................................................................................................

Dec 2014 -    Back in Australia again, after a great trip in the USA.
There's now a story covering this trip at:
                        http://jgflyingroadtrip2014.blogspot.com/

Telluride Colorado airstrip, altitude 9,070ft.

June 2014 -  JG is in the USA again.
This time helping a friend build a Savannah kit near Denver,
then continuing a flying/road trip around the western states
with his ultralight in a trailer.
Had so much fun last time, just had to do it again!

..............................................................................................................................................

19 Dec 2013 - I just discovered this wind graphic and find it fascinating!

Since so many of us who fly sport aviation,
are at that stage of life when we need our reading glasses
to see the computer screen properly,
I've written this site in large bold print to make it easier!

There's lots more coming to this website in the coming years.

As you can see, this isn't a very 'flash' website, and that's just the way I wanted it.
I'm not impressed by gee-whiz websites with big claims, always pushing to 'Buy Now!!'
This site is for information sharing, and there are 120 pages of real-life information in here.
I apologize if it's not as easy as could be to navigate, but with this much info it's difficult.
I've done all the website design myself, and that's been a struggle....

I'm only a beginning 'computer flyer'
and my interest is more in the workshop and in the air than at the keyboard
so it's a big learning curve...

Please be patient and stay tuned.
Lots more to come.

JG

Note:
This is a ‘living’ website designed with Shout software provided by MediaShaker.
The site will be frequently updated with new information and stories for all flyers.
So put it in your ‘Favorites’ folder and stay tuned!
